Here is o.k. and k.o. experience of VVDI Prog programmers working on BMW cars.

Tested by me: cas 2, cas 3, cas 3+, Cas4 5m48h, volvo cem v40
all ok.

Is a very good tool and for bmw cas4 .

I tested today D80 and a m35080v6, and they work perfect.

Mine erased D160 (BMW F01 dash) with no problem.

Tried to renew bmw e series 868 key. Vvdi claimed operation success but in tango key is now recognized as transponder type A. locked

I did renew 2 keys! Both worked and now ar programmed to cars!

Only thing you need to disconnect from PCB is battery while writing the renew file. (Remove the batteries)

It’s an excellent write-up: Flash e-series CIC to v41 software, BMW Apps without FSC

This is for ECE/US CIC, not for Asian variants.

How to flash E-series CIC to V41 and get BMW Apps without FSC:

Prequisities: You must know how to use WinKFP. You also must have some knowledge about WinKFP expert mode. Interface must be ICOM A + B(or OP(P)S). No matter what you read from internet or hear from someone else, K+DCAN cable can not be used. Do not even try, it will fail for sure.Also your Ediabas must have all files for flashing modules. There is no need for WinKFP ecu-files. I recommend you to download (v41 or post) sp-daten and do “update sp-daten” with bmw coding tool.

Update must be done module by module. Correct order is 63, 62, A0. All modules can be flashed with MOST_ASYNC_ab625.

Download included package and extract it. CIC has three modules: 63, 62 and A0. 63 and A0 is the same for all chassis models so there is just one folder for each. 62 (gateway) has a different software for every chassis model so correct folder must be chosen. Chassis models are E60 (including E60, E61, E62, E63), E89 (including E8x and E9x) and E70 (including E70 and E71). Choose correct folder for 62.

Copy three folders (develop_63, develop_62_exx, develop_a0) to c:\ec-apps\nfs\data

There are three modules to flash. 63 is the first one. Go to c:\ec-apps\nfs\data and rename “develop_63” to “develop”.

WinKFP will complain about incorrect files and other things when you select the files, just ignore the complaints.

Now select done and you will get back to main menu. Now everything is ready for flash (also you have power supply connected, ignition on and cd/dvd removed from CIC). At this point you can turn on windows task manager (taskmgr.exe) because WinKFP progress meter will not work when flashing cic. Select “Program NAAB” and bootloader flash starts. CIC goes to bootloader mode and fan spins at full speed, this is normal. Screen shows bootloader picture or turns black, depending on old firmware version. Now you must be patient because the meter is not working. It will go to 100% and do all kind of things, just wait until “bootsector update finished” appears. Next select program program. Same precautions for this, it takes around 30 minutes to flash 63 program. After program programming has finished, select program data.


Now you have flashed 63. Next you must flash 62. Go to c:\ec-apps\nfs\data and delete develop folder. Then rename develop_62_exx to develop. Go back to list on 63: on this guide. Configure WinKFP just like on that list, except change three bolded 63’s to 62. Also select new data, program and NAAB files. If you did the folder swap (delete develop folder, rename develop_62_exx -> develop) correctly, there are just the correct files available. Select done and perform flash in the same order: NAAB, program, data. 62 is quite fast to flash, maybe five minutes for each part.


Now you know how to do this. Only difference is that A0 has only program, not data or NAAB. Delete old develop folder, rename develop_a0 to develop. Go again back to list on 63 on this guide, change three bolded 63’s to A0. On this module you can’t select data or NAAB, just select program and then select done. Choose program program. It takes around 30 minutes to program A0. After this, you have flashed your CIC to v41 and will get FSC-free BMW Apps.

After programming, code your CIC with NCS Expert.

How to install WinOLS 2.24 Windows 32 bit:

First, it’s a customer solution. Good luck.

I ended up getting it installed.

1. Install “setup.exe”

2. Take the following 3 files:

and put them here:
C:\Program Files\EVC

3. Install “winols_testversion.exe” and run through the setup, just keep clicking yes/OK. At the end of the install it will launch the program, let it do that, but just close it after it opens, don’t play around with it.

4. Go back into C:\Program Files\EVC and double click “loader_ols_32bit”, this should bring up a window saying something along the lines of “Restart the app”. If it says “error starting app”, you’ve gone wrong somewhere. Take note of the red bit above ^

5. Go to start>control panel>add/remove a program>uninstall WinOls 2.14.03
This is the test version you just installed, DON’T delete the full version you installed first.

6. Again, go back into C:\Program Files\EVC and right click “loader_ols_32bit” and send to desktop. This will create a shortcut on the desk top. Then, on the desktop, delete the shortcut to WinOls. If you open WinOls directly it will mess it all up, you have to open the program by using “loader_ols_32bit” which now also has a shortcut on the desktop. I renamed the loader shorcut “WinOls” to simplify things.

Lastly, tune things, give them massive amounts of power, give horsepower to the people, fry tyres and make lots of noise.

First install WinOLS_Testversion.exe & launch program, configure as required

Once the application is opened close it & uninstall via “Add or Remove Programs” via control panel or “Programs & Features” (W7)

Navigate to C:\Program Files

Now copy / paste the “EVC” folder to this location. If you get a question about folder replacement answer “YES TO ALL”

Now navigate to C:\Program Files\EVC

Right click on “loader_ols_32_XP_free.exe” then select send shortcut to desktop (You can rename it later)

Now run the program using the shortcut & you will get a message about the License key completed, click OK

Now run again the program & configure as required ….You should now have a registered version of WinOLS 2.24

ISTA/P v41 download for BMW E60 CIC programming

Only way to do CIC programming on BMW E-series is to use Win KFP expert mode. Also it will be quite hard to find ISTA/P v41.

My bet is it will return 7 – programming session active for CIC.

I guess as nothing happened during the ISTA flash your CIC is stuck in bootloader mode.

CIC is made up of 3 parts which must be flashed in correct order (obviously ISTA does this automatically but I’ll explain it as it may help you solve the problem).

63 -> 62 -> A0

The numbers refer to ECU addresses so…

A0 = CIC

Bootloader / program / data

I think only an ICOMA+B / Opps unit will you be able to recover this CIC by reflashing with ISTAP. Only 62 can be flashed with K+DCAN. The complete package requires MOST (ICOM B) correctly configured.

Yes, if you have retrofitted CIC and combox. This tutorial is for CIC and car must also have combox to get apps. I added specific chassis models to the guide.

Probably yes. I have never tried with dr gini, I always use easy connect. You want to configure ediabas.ini for remote:most_async_ab625 so I can’t see why it wouldn’t work, if the software gives you an opportunity to configure ediabas.

I still remind, you must have some knowledge about winkfp use. This guide is not for those who have never used winkfp. Start with basics, downgrading cic is not basics.

Only flash when it’s necessary!

clone wiTECH VCI Pod off Ebay: Foget it!!


The awesome write-up: great to know a clone Chrysler wiTECH VCI Pod.

Here to share all I know about wiTECH VCI pod and the clone I have. This is a long, long story that still is being written.

Sept 2013 Bought only one off ebay at the time for $500 around came with version 13.xx. The clones do not have a wifi radio like the real thing, but otherwise function the same. (perhaps the quality is not, but seems OK)

Worked great first few times, connects with USB cable and uses BrightStar “Ethernet Gadget” drivers which acts as an IP device over USB with a default address The WiTECH Server has to be running first for the application to detect the pod on it’s “own little network”. WiTECH Server installs as start up item until changed.

When it works, it works great. The wiTECH application and pod gives you most dealer level capabilities. Also the DRB III emulator does work on later PCI (not CCD) vehicles, read somewhere there may be a “Smart Cable” for older CCD. (The actual wiTECH is CAN only.)

Problem is you cannot be online, which forfeits some of the functionality a registered pod with valid login or subscription would provide. If you did have all that it will show which modules have available updates, allow you to perform the flash updates, and provide direct links to bulletins and other useful resources.

Another problem of being online is what most of the discussions are about. Once the application checks the DCC servers for a valid device – you’re done. Would get “Unregistered device” or “Unable to Reach wiTECH Server” if offline after the first “phone home” and subsequent self update. Also installs extremely annoying “Common Software Manager”, is or is like Flexnet, very difficult to remove or disable.

Now when this first happened to me I reached out to the seller, and was directed to install a downloaded version 14.xx on another PC, and stay offline when using application and device. Not wanting to give up my netbook loaded with many other diagnostic applications and drivers, uninstalled completely including deleting all files and registry entries I could find.

After a clean reinstall, worked great again. Over time I repeated this multiple times, either forgetting to go offline or installing on other PCs. Found there was no way to maintain a stable installation if open when online.

The latest problems arose from the USB socket on the pod. Have replaced it twice, but the last time could not restore the connection, this was subject of first MHH post asking for help. Now I’ve learned there is a web interface in the pod, and I could have enabled the LAN Ethernet port while there was USB communication.

Weeks of repair attempts and emails back and forth with Chinese eBay seller followed, I truly think he wanted to help, even though there was no warranty. But after beating the basics to death, and them wanting a video of the problems I gave up. I just wanted to get it repaired or replaced. Now they’re down to $400 so that was an option but wanted something easier and cheaper.

More recently on eBay found people offering to fix the Unregistered Pod issue for $500, also found a guy offering to repair connection problems for much less. This guy was great. I sent the pod to him, he did not fix the USB, but enabled the LAN RJ45 port and assigned a static IP address to access the device. This is the true answer for anyone who has a wiTECH, real or otherwise. It works so much better and faster with a direct IP connection rather than using the clumsy USB IP “fake network”

When my pod was returned, it worked perfectly with a crossover Ethernet cable, but I got locked out again. This gentleman was very helpful, said to go ahead with all the updates (15.xx + newest Adobe AIR) and then give him Teamviewer remote access. Watched as he transferred files and did whatever else to magically unlock the application so it worked with the newest version and while being online.

Been hoping to learn what and how he did this, and don’t mind paying for the information, just for my own use, have other computers have been working to replace my old netbook. Have no interest in taking advantage by cashing in on eBay. Have not heard back from him yet, and will not bug him about it either.

The newest version does not include the DRB emulator, I tried to run the program over the newer version but it did not work, “could not find VCI”. The pod does work on another laptop that still has 14.xx with the emulator included, so will leave that one alone for just that purpose, at least until hopefully find the way to have emulator work with 15.xx.

VAG CAN PRO VCP 5.5.1 Review


I have in my hand for testing purposes vag can pro 5.5.1 (SP275) with QC mark.. Not sure if I will use it since I have already enabled keyless entry. That was the purpose of purchasing it but after I managed to flash with obdlink SX usb and SRT can-connect russian program it is a feature I will not test. The other reason was to get the radio concert 0350 firmware but clone version does not come with this, only original has it.

It was bought for self usage but it will remain in my luggage of not used diagnostics unless it is needed in the future. Also testing to see complexity and if it is worth to buy original.

It comes with the zdc file for enabling keyless entry and many other zdc parameters which I have no clue what they do. I have used VCDs for enabling all other options. VCDs can not flash or activate new parameters which are disabled in firmware.

Not sure if it can unlock used control units.

It can flash firmware (e.g. .sgo) but I know that vas5054a with Odis engineering is quicker. Also flash option is not available with VCDs.

It can function with and without usb dongle by replacing 2 DLLs. It needs usb dongle if dll files are not replaced.

Please post your questions and experience regarding this clone.

The original is much better, supported, tested, can download zdc and firmware through the manager app, and has version 8. The original VCP price is not bad (though postage cost is high), so I recommend it compared to VAS5054a however it can be used to complement VCDs i.e. to be used as an add on but not as a VCDs replacement.

VAS5054a cannot enable keyless entry even even with Odis engineering. Tried to save current parameters to see if I can modify keyless but in almost every control module it asks for a security code, so I cannot save existing parameters.

Unlocking control units:
1. VCP???? Not tested but if it does it should be complex. First in case it does support this.
2. Vas5054a (Audi dealer)

VCP can add other parameters such as VIM but I only have radio concert so I cannot test this function. Can connect has some functions that resemble VCP or VCDs (but automated).

VAS5054a used with odis-S or odis-E
Odis-E can fix failed flash of control units unlike odis-S. I believe VCP has same capability since it can flash offline

FYI: BMW FEM/BDC Coding/Programming with VVDI2 full kit 4.3.0 .vvdi2-bmw-fem-programming-2

step 1:

read FEM/BDC coding via OBDII or on the bench
you’d better not close this window after starting this procedure
step 2:

open FEM/BDC shell, find out where the 95128/95256 chip is, read EEPROM dump via BDM programmer
load original EEPROM dump and save special EEPROM dump, write special EEPROM dump back to the 95128/95256 chip
restore FEM/BDC shell, provide -12v and connect it via OBD
step 3:

this operation requires connecting FEM/BDC on the bench, and make sure you finish step 1 ans step 2
provide +12v to FEM.BDC and connect it via OBD
step 4:

open FEM/BDC shell, write original EEPROM dump (read step 2) back to the 95128/95256 chip
restore FEM/BDC shell and connect it via OBD
step 5:

loading coding file (read step 1), write to FEM/BDC via OBDII, finish FEM/BDC programming

Attention please!!!

– You can directly backup/restore coding

– You have to pre-setup the FEM/BDC module before deleting/adding keys or resetting keys

– You’ll be told other tools need to be used first to program the FEM/BDC system, then setup FEM/BDC via VVDI2. It happens when you do FEM/BDC key learning, and you don’t have a working software version

– You’d better not close the VVDI2 interface when you pre-setup FEM/BDC

– You need do with 95128(FEM) or 95256(BDC) chip when pre-setup FEM/BDC

Note: there are two 8-pin chips; do not disassemble the wrong chip; better refer to the wiring diagram

– You must restore original EEPROM data, restore coding when pre-setup FEM/BDC. If you fail to restore coding or the remote cannot start or something wrong with the window (or other failures probably) after coding restore and FEM/BDC installation, please use other tools to do re-coding FEM/BDC

– Ask tech support @eobdtool.fr for help, if the replay sounds continuously after supplying power to the FEM/BDC. Usually, it needs programming.
